26th Build

 Underway in Ashland

Mason Family Selected for Home

Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity has begun work on its 26th home build.  The latest Habitat for Humanity home is being constructed at 4 Glove St. in Ashland and work got underway in earnest on September 16.  The family that will occupy this three-bedroom home will be the Mason family.  Greg and Christine and their children Tyler, Brandon and Candace were chosen by the Family Selection Committee after long and thorough process.  The Masons currently reside in Plymouth.  Greg has been employed at Ashland Lumber for the past eight years.  We are very pleased to be able to welcome the Masons into the Habitat family.

Volunteers are always needed during the construction.  Normal work days are Friday and Saturday.  You need not be a skilled carpenter to volunteer your time at the build.  All are welcome to come and lend a hand and training will be provided.  You'll get a wonderful feeling of satisfaction knowing you have helped to make the dream of owning a home become a reality for a needy and deserving local family.

On Sept. 18, Pemi-Valley Habitat welcomed several members of the Plymouth State University women's soccer team and they did fantastic job.  If your business or organization would like to plan a day of work at the Pemi-Valley Habitat build in Ashland, please call 536-1333 and, of course, individuals are always welcome.  It is because of the volunteer efforts of members of the local community that Pemi-Valley Habitat is able to build an affordable home for a qualified Habitat family.

Thank you to Larry Gilpatrick, who stepped in to do the site work when Hurricane Irene derailed our previous plans.  Good job, Larry.

New PVH Website Launched

Thanks to the efforts of David Switaj of Moonlight Computers, a new website has been launched for Pemi-Valley Habitat. The new website is much easier to navigate and has several new pages.  Soon, the website will allow donors to make contributions with the click of a button.  That feature should be up and running shortly.  We hope you'll enjoy perusing the new site and will add it to your favorites.  We will keep you up to date on all the latest happenings on our latest build and at the ReStore.  We also plan to add a blog soon.  Next on the agenda is redoing our Facebook Page and we'll have that up and running

 shortly.

What's in Store at The ReStore?

We are bulging at the seams at the ReStore, so come on in and see if we have what you need for your home repairs, improvements or renovations.  We currently DO have some kitchen cabinets, including a set we just received last week.  We also have some hardwood flooring.  We have one electric range in stock.  We still have a few of the desks remaining and they are priced to move at $5 and $10 each. We also have a huge shipment of new shelving coming soon...shelving of all types, so be sure to come check it out!

If you haven't been to the ReStore lately, stop by and see all the work we have done.  We have done so much reorganizing, adding more shelving and pegboard.  Our new loading dock and handicap ramp are also nearly complete.  Thanks to Charlie Flood, ReStore Chairman for all his hard work and to the "Using Our Tools" organization for all the volunteer labor on the loading dock.

We have others to thank as well.  We did a cleanup day this spring, Charlie, Ross Deachman and several PSU students came and helped out.  We had several more PSU students come during a Community Service Day.  We also want to send a special thank you to three ReStore Volunteers.  Courtney Bonan worked two summers here and recently left to work on her Masters Degree in Forensic Science at the University of New Haven.  Patricia Wells was an absolutely tireless worker here and not only manned the store, but planted the flowers you'll see this spring.  Also, thank you to David Craig, another summer volunteer.  Patricia and David both head to different parts of Florida for the winter.  Also, thank you to Forrest Webber for his help with donation pickups and also at the build site.

New Item: Habitat Cookie Molds Available

We are very pleased to have a very large supply of Habitat "our House" Cookie Molds available for sale.

These beautiful and functional cookie molds were produced by  Brown Bag Designs of Hill, New Hampshire in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  Until recently, all profits from the sale of these unique, one-of-a-kind cookie molds benefited Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the areas stricken by Katrina.

They originally sold for $18 each.  Now, these cookie molds have been made available to Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity and are available for $5 each and the proceeds will help PVH build more homes right here in the Pemi-Valley area for needy and deserving families.  Own a most beautiful and unique item and help us help others.  These beautiful cookie molds are available at the ReStore.  Thank you to Lucy Natkiel for the wonderful and thoughtful donation.
